About BioIdential Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)
At TruBalance Healthcare, our goal is to help you feel like yourself again. By working closely with your BHRT doctor or Nurse Practitioner, we are able to find the best solution for your unique and individual hormone condition. Contact us today to start the process with a referral to a BHRT doctor in your area.
BHRT provides the body with a form of replacement hormones, that are identical to the molecular structure of natural, endogenous hormones.
BioIdentical Vs. Synthetic Hormones
The term "bioidentical" simply means that these hormones are chemically the same as the ones the human body produces. They are also called "human identical" or "human iso-molecular". "Synthetic" hormones refers to those manufactured with a chemical structure that is foreign to the human body, but mimics some hormonal activity. These chemical differences can mean that synthetic hormones act differently in your body and produce substantially different effects. We recommend that you work with a top compounding pharmacy that specializes in bioidentical hormones/human identical hormones so that your custom compounded prescription formulations are exactly to what your body needs.
Where do these types of hormones come from?
Human Identical Hormones are obtained from sterol analogues found in many varieties of plants, seaweed, primarily soybean and yam/sweet potatoes (if the patient has any allergies their prescription should be altered). The estrogen and progesterone powder is engineered chemically from the plant to be molecularly identical to endogenous human hormones.
Why do Human Identical Hormones need a prescription?
Human Identical Hormones that are specific to your unique hormone levels can only be obtained from a custom compounding pharmacy. Compounding or formulating a customized dosage for an individual person is a function that a compounding pharmacist performs only with the permission of the physician. Always make sure your prescription is made onsite in a sterile facility. The formulation is an exact fingerprint to what your own body needs.
What type of delivery system is best suited for me?
Hormone balance is individual, therefore the way you take hormones will be customized to each individual person. There are many delivery methods available.
Taking various basic ingredients, the pharmacist puts together, or compounds the medication in the correct proportion, formulas, and delivery methods (i.e. pills, capsules, creams, ointments, injectables) prescribed by the physician.
SERUM (BLOOD) TESTING
Analytical measurement of serum (blood) is tested to determine your hormone levels - your medical practitioner will give you a blood requisition form. Most Physicians & Nurse Practitioners prefer serum testing.
Your first serum test will be a comprehensive panel which includes all hormones, adrenal & thyroid.
FOLLOW UP TESTS are done at 3, 6, and 9 months to track your hormones, manage your symptoms & make changes to your individualized custom treatment plan.
Your MD or NP may order Reverse T3 blood testing for Thyroid issues. The lab notifies the Physician or Nurse practitioner via fax or email when the patient's lab results have arrived. **Results take 5 - 10 days.
The Super Power of Hormones
When you are 20 regardless of whether you are a man or a woman, you are full of hormones, you are fertile, diseases are rare and recovery is swift, you can get your body weight under control with diet and exercise and you want to have sex.
With the aging process, women loose their hormones and along with this hormone loss, they start experiencing symptoms that make them feel poorly, not like themselves. In menopause, women have hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, irritability, stubborn weight gain, loss of libido, infertility and develop chronic illnesses like high cholesterol, dementia and high blood pressure.
You can try to exercise, change your diet, get some rest and take supplements, but unless you address the hormone balance and recreate the environment of your 30s and early 40s, the aging process will inevitably prevail.
PAIN MANAGEMENT
Pain management is essential to recovery, because even when the underlying disease process is stable, uncontrolled pain prevents patients from playing sports, working productively, and enjoying recreational activities.
Chronic pain may have a myriad of causes and perpetuating factors, and therefore can be much more difficult to manage than acute pain, requiring a multidisciplinary approach and customized treatment protocols to meet the specific needs of each patient.
Optimal treatment may involve the use of medications that possess pain-relieving properties. By combining various agents which utilize different mechanisms to alter the sensation of pain, physicians have found that smaller concentrations of each medication can be used. From topical to transdermal to gels – your pharmacist can custom create a formulation for you best suited for your individual needs.
